“Ms. Katrina (as I affectionately still call her) and her staff not only taught dance, but also instilled a sense of pride and confidence to the students that allowed them to walk a little taller, to take risks and embrace the possibilities beyond what they saw in their day-to-day life. In her interactions with the community, she demonstrated the mandates of cultural competency that are required when cultures engage together.“

Enhance curriculum. Katrina’s holistic approach begins with a thorough review of goals and lesson plans, taking into account the challenges of your organization and area. Then, using community-based models, and based on research, she works with your team to design or improve programs and assess results. Common scenarios are:

  • A dance school that wants to develop a pricing structure for your mixed-income area, and create performances that tell stories about the students and their community.

  • A dance company that wants to create a new education program for youth that addresses school standards and deepens your connections with your community.

  • A ballet company that wants to refresh your longstanding curriculum, to better align with your mission and position your advanced dance students for professional careers.

Tailor programs to online platforms. Since COVID-19 deters us from dancing together in person, Katrina advises on reformatting curriculum for online environments and facilitating experiences that are rewarding for students and offset their isolation.

Prepare to return to in-person training. Versed on the latest safety protocols, Katrina can advise on socially distant classes and site specific performances outside or in non-traditional spaces.
