Katrina Toews is an arts administrator, teacher, dancer, choreographer and Pilates trainer. Now based in Colorado, she has taught with Aspen Santa Fe Ballet and Dance Initiative and is an arts consultant.

For 18 years, Toews worked with The Washington Ballet. For 14 of those years, she served as the director of the ballet’s Southeast DC campus, from its inception, and shepherding its growth. The Washington Ballet @ THEARC, or Town Hall Education Arts and Recreation Campus, is the largest satellite of the school and under her directorship, it became the headquarters for the education and community engagement programs and grew to offer daily programs that served 1,400 students. Dedicated to diversifying the field of ballet, this campus supported talent from the DC Public School system through a progressive curriculum designed to move them toward eligibility for the second and main companies. Prior to that, Katrina was a professor of dance at James Madison University, in Harrisonburg, VA. She coached elite athletes as a Pilates Trainer at Body Dynamics, Falls Church, VA.

Katrina has choreographed and performed for 20 years. Toews founded and directed K2 Dance Company, whose work has been described by Washington Post critics as “solidly crafted quality” and choreography that “stands out.” She danced with Bosmadance and Carla & Co., both in Washington, DC.

Katrina has received numerous awards and acknowledgments for her service to youth and community. In 2008, she received the MetroDC Dance Award for Outstanding Youth Performance. In 2010, her students performed at the White House for President and Mrs. Obama. Also in 2010, she received the Young Alumni Award from Bethel College for her work with youth in the field of dance. In 2019, she served as a panelist for Dance/USA Fellowships to Artists, funded by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. Toews holds an M.A. in dance from American University, Washington, DC. and a B.A. in fine arts and elementary education from Bethel College, North Newton, Kansas.
